Transferred to the Education Department on 23 April 1948 and shifted to Christchurch Boys High School.

Mid air collision with a US Navy SBD-3 Dauntless, BuNo06589 from VB-11 at 0945 hours on 25 March 1943.
The aircraft collided at 10,000 feet about 20 miles from Nandi during an escort exercise while avoiding a diving attack by a USN F4F and both spun into the sea.
Squadron Leader Allan Crichton killed.
