The RAAF Received 37 N serialled Battles from a batch of 189 built for the RAF (serialled N2020 to N2258) by Fairey between February and June 1939 at Stockport under contract 768880/38.

Aircraft Serial C/N Model History
N2017     Noted in some references as an RAAF airframe.
An E/E.88 exists showing a Battle serialled N2017 as being received on 14/10/1942 with no further information.
In fact, this production batch began at N2020 and the serials N2017 to N2019 were never a allocated to any RAF airframe (the block N1854 to N2016 was allocated to a batch of Fairey Fulmar I aircraft).
It appears that this card was raised in error.

Whilst carrying out Air to Air Gunnery Exercise on No4 A.B.Line, at a height of 4,000 (feet), the pilot noticed that the oil pressure was reading very low. He immediately broke off the detail and commenced to fly towards the aerodrome, slowly losing height. When nearing the circuit area the radiator temperature began to rise, and the engine to smoke badly, almost immediately bursting into flames. The pilot lowered the undercarriage and turned the petrol and switches off, and carried out a forced landing on the aerodrome.

N2288     Noted in some references as an RAAF airframe.
The real N2288 was an RAF Gloster Gladiator II.
N9323     Noted in some references as an RAAF airframe.
This is because the form E/E.88 for RAAF Battle K9323 was erroneously marked
N9323.
The real N9323 was an RAF Tiger Moth.
