Nil ? ? CANT Z.501 CANT Z.501 Gabbiano (Gull) maritime patrol float plane, found intact by the RAAF on the occupation of Sicily, Italy. c. September 1943. 
About two weeks were spent brining the aircraft into a serviceable condition when the RAF ordered that it be handed over to the Free French.

AWM Photo Caption: Augusta, Sicily, Italy, September 1943. A Pilot Officer John of No. 3 (Kittyhawk) Squadron Royal Australian Air Force aboard an Italian CRDA Cant-Z-501 Gabbiano float plane found intact on occupation of this Regia Marina's (Italian Royal Navy) base. Serviced by No. 3 Squadron but when serviceable was ordered to hand it and the floatplane to the Free French. [AWM MEA0311].

147-11 ? CANT Z.501 No. 3 Squadron also acquired a second CANT Z.501 Gabbiano single engined reconnaissance flying boat at Bari, also coded CV-V, although it was not flown.  Like the earlier aircraft, this also passed from the RAAF to the Free French under direction from the RAF.
