Four Embraer Bandeirantes (generally referred to as "Bandits") were operated March to December 1995 by Australian Army Aviation on dry lease from Flight West Airlines. The lease was to cover the capability gap created by the grounding of the GAF Nomad fleet and the aircraft were flown by crews from 173 Sqn retaining their airline scheme with the addition of a redback spider on tail (the unit emblem).

Flight West Airlines was established in May 1987 as a regional airline headquartered in Brisbane. It operated predominantly in Queensland and went into voluntary liquidation on 19 June 2001 before being sold to Queensland Aviation Holdings (the parent company of Alliance Airlines) in April 2002.
