In 1969 Australia announced that in was to donate 18 refurbished ex-RAAF Sabre jets to Malaysia
This page attempts to documents their history with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) orTentera Udara DiRaja Malaysia (TUDM)

Serial confusion?

The RMAF initially issued serials in the form FM-1xxx, with xxx being the RAAF serial suffix
ie A94-948 became FM-1948 and A94-367 became FM-1367

Later the serials were changed to the form FM-19xx. with xx being the last two digits of the construction number (c/n)

ie A94-948 (c/n CA27-48) remains FM-1948 but A94-367 (c/n CA27-107) becomes FM-1907

There appears to have been a further change of serial with FM-1900, FM-1901, FM-1906 FM-1908 and FM-1910 being noted.
These serials do not follow either of the above methods
ie c/n CA27-100 was A94-360 but that was destroyed in 1962 and c/n CA27-101 was A94-361 that went to Indonesia.
RAAF serials of these aircraft is unknown.
This final change of serials may of been to fill in the gaps in the numbering sequence or maybe these aircraft were composite airframes.
The photo we have of FM-1901 shows a definite misalignment in the roundel at the fuselage break point suggesting that the fuselage sections may be from different aircraft.

Some serials had a hyphen ie FM-1902 whilst others don't ie FM1900. For clarity I have included a hyphen in all serials.

Some reports seem to indicate that it may of been A94-365/FM-1905
I would welcome any verification.

This "Koku Fan" magazine photo shows Sabres FM-1901 and FM-1908. We have been unable to tie their serials in with their original RAAF serials. Any ideas?
FM-1902
FM-1362		 A94-362 CA27-102 Free Issue to RMAF 11 Sqn 19/08/69 as FM-1362 (later changed to FM-1902), phased out 1976.
Displayed at TUDM Museum, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

FM-1363		 A94-363 CA27-103 Free Issue to RMAF 11 Sqn 19/08/69 as FM-1363 (later changed to FM-1903), phased out 1976.
Reported to be on display at Butterworth however with no other information nor photos we do know if it is on the gate or within the base.

FM-1904
FM-1364		 A94-364 CA27-104 Free Issue to RMAF 11 Sqn 19/08/69 as FM-1364 (later changed to FM-1904), phased out 1976.
On outdoor display at the museum in Taiping, Perak Malaysia.
Currently in camouflage scheme wearing FM19-17 (sic)

FM-1905
FM-1365		 A94-365 CA27-105 Free Issue to RMAF 11 Sqn 19/08/69 as FM-1365 (later changed FM-1905), phased out 1976.

Sabre A94-365 as FM1365 Butterworth Photo John Bennett
There are 2 aircraft on display marked as FM-1905.
One was the long time gate guard at Butterworth Air Force Base.
(This is also reported to have at one time been FM-1901)
This was replaced as gate guard in 2011 by a Northrop F-5E Freedom Fighter and repositioned to outside the officers mess (wisma periwa)

FM-1367		 A94-367 CA27-107 Free Issue to RMAF 11 Sqn 19/03/69 as FM-1367 (later changed to FM-1907), phased out 1976.
Currently on display at RMAF Museum, Simpang, Kuala Lumpur.
It has it's fuselage skin removed and the framework painted red.

Exported to USA 1989 held by Ocotillo Wells, Aero Trader.
Current at Aero Traders, Ocotillo Wells, California, USA. .

FM-1371		 A94-371 CA27-111 Free Issue to RMAF 11 Sqn 19/08/69 as FM-1371 (later changed to FM-1911), phased out 1976.

FM-1946 A94-946 CA27-46 On 23/11/71 approval given for free transfer to Malaysia.
To 11 SQN RMAF 08/12/71 as FM1946, phased out 1976

On transfer to the RMAF it was to be converted to Instructional Airframe No.10.
FM-1999
FM-1359		 A94-359 CA27-99 To RMAF 11 Sqn 19/08/69 as FM-1359 and later FM-1999, phased out 1976.
"FM19-17" A94-364 CA27-104 FM-1904 is painted as "FM19-17" on display at at the Taiping Museum
