north away from Seoul, Trebilco and Stevens then went on to
Munsan along the road to Sariwon. Trebilco then happened to
looked behind him and saw the flash of an explosion. Returning
to that location Trebilco saw Stephens' Mustang on open ground
near a number of houses. Making a number of flying runs over the
wreckage Trebilco could see no sign of the pilot or any other
activity in the area and then proceeded to Munsan to complete
the mission.

Flying an Armed Reconnaissance mission PLTOFF Klaffer and SGT
Strange, having taken off from Pusan flew north to conduct the
reconnaissance of the road and rail network from Wonsan to
Sunchon. Commencing their reconnaissance from Wonsan and
following the main road west to the Iryongdong area they
attacked a nearby village with Napalm. However, the napalm
canisters remained hung up before releasing, over shooting the
target and failed to explode. Flying as No.2, SGT Strange, then
reported being hit by flak and was losing oil pressure. Plt.Off
Klaffer told Strange to head east and out over the sea, about 2
miles north of Wonsan. Sgt Strange then jettisoned his canopy
and bailed out but his parachute failed to open and Plt.Off
Klaffer witnessed two dark objects falling from the aircraft and
into the sea. A SAR helicopter arrived on the scene a short time
later and found a number items in the water, including a pair of
gloves and a pair of trousers. |

Collided with A68-812 in cloud, 14/02/51. Both pilots having
recently arrived at 77 Sqn were partaking in a "Close Support"
mission with two other aircraft. The mission was to be directed
by (Air) Controller for the 2nd US Inf. Div. over the Wonju
area. While proceeding to the area the flight encountered heavy
cloud forcing the aircraft to set a course for the east coast of
Korea to jettison their Napalm tanks over the water while
returning to base. Thick cloud was gain encountered and the
section split into pairs and started to climb through it. Within
the cloud cover one pilot was heard to say "I am spinning and am
going to bail out." Upon clearing the cloud the two remaining
aircraft tried, but failed to contact the other two aircraft.
It's thought that the two pilots collided in mid-air in the
cloud cover.

Collided with A68-796 in cloud, 14/02/51.
Both pilots having recently arrived at 77 Sqn were partaking in
a "Close Support" mission with two other aircraft. The mission
was to be directed by (Air) Controller for the 2nd US Inf. Div.
over the Wonju area. While proceeding to the area the flight
encountered heavy cloud forcing the aircraft to set a course for
the east coast of Korea to jettison their Napalm tanks over the
water while returning to base. Thick cloud was gain encountered
and the section split into pairs and started to climb through
it. Within the cloud cover one pilot was heard to say "I am
spinning and am going to bail out." Upon clearing the cloud the
two remaining aircraft tried, but failed to contact the other
two aircraft. It's thought that the two pilots collided in
mid-air in the cloud cover.
