Purchased by Murray Griffiths in 1985 and relocated at Denilquin, NSW, then Moorabbin Vic in 1997. Registered as VH-BFO from 22/01/97 and painted as A20-436, in 4 Sqn Codes BF-F. First flight, 16/06/97.

Accident 1100 hrs 05/11/48 when aircraft made a precautionary landing at Echuca due to engine cutting out in flight. Pilot; F/Lt P W Symons Serv#432616 and F/Lt W D Ephgrave Serv#2878 both not injured. Repaired. Accident 1030hrs 20/10/50 when flying low level navigational exercise (No 17)at 50 feet over Lake Corangamite after taking off from Point Cook 0948hrs; the pilot, proceeding to re-synchronise Direction Indicator with compass, in-advertently applied forward stick pressure which caused the airscrew to strike the water surface. He immediately attempted to climb but at 50-100 feet the engine vibration and the inability of the aircraft to climb, forced him to ditch the aircraft, canopy opened and tail down, on the lake. The aircraft had settled in 8 feet of water and 2-3 feet of mud. Pilot; T/Plt Vance Drummond Serv#A336624 injured slightly after striking forehead and nose on cockpit (He would become a Pilot in 77Sqn and would be shot down and captured in North Korea. Sadly on 17/05/67 he would be killed in a Mirage crash) After being rescued by local Camperdown resident, he was flown back to Point Cook by Oxford. Approved for conversion 22/01/51. Tail section recovered 06/02/51. The fuselage and wings remain on site this very day. S R Wasp Eng # 647 fitted at time of crash.

Owned by Robert Greinert & Associates, Sydney, from 1994 to 1999 The aircraft was reregistered as VH-WRX and painted as A20-458 when in service with 5SFTS. The aircraft crashed 30/05/99 at an airshow at Nowra, NSW. The pilot Owen O'Mally (a World-War II veteran) and observer Phil Lloyd were both killed in the crash.

Accident 28/03/51, during a night training exercise at Point Cook Flight Training School this aircraft crashed into the sea almost immediately after take-off due to engine failure. At 10.15 pm James Thomas Cass (Trainee Pilot) Serv# A33820 began flying several circuits with J.P. Bird (Instructor) in A20-648 and on the last approach this plane had an "almost complete hydraulic failure". Bird instructed Jim Cass to get the spare plane (A20-724) started, which he did. Bird checked the new plane and taxied it into starting position. F/Sgt Ronald Keith Johnstone (Instructor) Serv#033214 (Accident report has him as F/Lt but casualty report has him as F/Sgt, but Serv# prefix 0 means Commissioned Officer) then took over from Bird in the second plane. There was then a loud bang and a shower of sparks as if the ignition switch had been turned off. The switches were then re-tested and everything seemed okay. It was about 10.55PM by this point. The plane then took off reaching 400 feet before the engine cut out, restarted, cut out again, restarted again and cut out a third time. The plane banked steeply to the left and then spun until reaching about 150 feet. At this time, about 11.02PM, a radio call from Ronald Johnstone was heard by the Flight Officer in the control van - "Charlie Charlie, emergenc..". The Officer immediately looked out of the van and saw the plane heading straight downwards at about 150 feet, no longer spinning at this point, and it hit the sea about 300 yards offshore, in about 8 to 10 feet of water. The crew, F/Sgt Ronald Keith Johnstone (Instructor) 033214 and James Thomas Cass (Trainee Pilot) A33820 were both killed instantly upon impact and the plane was destroyed.
