Accident 0841hrs 30/10/43 at Belfrayden Satellite airfield near Uranquinty when aircraft was landing. Aircraft was approaching low and slow at approximately 30 ft off ground when aircraft stalled and flicked on back and crashed. Aircraft exploded on impact. After collision, A20-585 burst into flames, trapping the Student pilot. Sgt Conway, after being knock unconscious initially managed to extracate himself before the fire reached his cockpit. Crew of A20-585; Sgt Maxwell John Conway Serv#205784 slightly injured, with Student Pilot, LAC John Thomas McCarthy Serv#421998 being killed. Pilot of solo A20-613, LAC Charles Wilson Wannan Serv#421948 uninjured. Issued Clyde Engineering 25/01/43. Repaired. Rec 2OTU ex Clyde 08/07/43. On 25/10/44, being Authorised to conduct aerobatics and spins as part of an exercise the aircraft failed to recover from a spin, which was observed from a second aircraft as to spin approximately two or three times. It is thought that the dual stick which had been in place in the aircraft had possibly jammed against the Observers seat. Crew; PLTOFF J.G. Operational damage and landing accident 01/01/43 when returning from reconnaissance of Buna Area after receiving enemy AA machinegun fire and damage. When coming into landing at Dobodura NG, the hydraulic system failed, causing flaps and Diving brakes to revert to normal position, forcing a high speed landing which resulted in the aircraft overshooting and running off strip. Accident 08/12/42 when aircraft landed 150 yards short of aerodrome in wheat field and ran through leeward Boundary fence of Belfrayden Satellite Aerodrome. Pilot was R Martin 5SFTS. Repaired. Accident 1000hrs 10/11/43 at Main Aerodrome Uranquinty. On landing aircraft bounced and landed on port mainplane. Crew: Sgt K E Batley Serv#424721 and LAC P W McHenry Serv#430265 OK. Weather closed in when attempting flight through the mountain gap near Dumpu. Unable to continue, the pilot spent nearly one and a half hours looking for the coast when they signaled a nearby C-47 using two red Verey flares. The C-47 escorted the pilot to the coast. It was painted silver with a black anti glare panel yellow stripes around the wings and fuselage and Kangaroo roundels on the sides. A reflection of the dedication by the syndicate. Outside of the scope of this website, the follow-on history will show one of the members advertising this aircraft on E-Bay for a stated reserve amount resulting in numerous challenges in 2007-2008. The new owner in accordance with the E-Bay advertising guidelines, was successful in obtaining this aircraft following a successful High Court challenge which upheld his appeal of the E-Bay Guidelines. The aircraft resided in Parafield, South Australia and was flown regularly in 2009/10. A20-652 was flown from Parafield to Caloundra Qld by Matthew Denning. It became the first aircraft for the Queensland Air Museum to fly in to Caloundra on delivery to the museum since it moved there. Following a flying display it was handed over to the museum at Caloundra on 18/12/10.

Purchased by Mr R Hourigan and Mr P Capron in 1968, A20-687 was transported to Moorabbin for restoration 17/08/68. Over the next eight years, an extensive restoration of the aircraft was undertaken, including the fitment of operational equipment applicable to a CA-9 Wirraway operated in the dive-bomber role. Restoration of the aircraft was completed in 1977 and A20-561 was placed on loan to the RAAF Museum for display in July 1977. The RAAF Museum purchased this aircraft in May 1999 for display as A20-561 coded QE-B of 4 Sqn RAAF.

They had been experimenting spraying brigalow scrub in Queensland and felt that these aircraft were good at the task and that representation to the RAAF in 1954 initiated this. Registered VH-SSG 11/06/54 to 10/04/56 operating out of Moorabbin. Withdrawn from use. Sold to CAC for conversion to a CA28 Ceres. Super Spread Pty Ltd was taken over by Aerial Agriculture Pty Ltd in the latter 1960s. Converted into a Ceres?
