By 1965 retired agricultural Tiger Moths were parked out at many airfields. They had little resale value back then, prior to the boom in the popular vintage and antique aircraft movement. Its agricultural working life finished, the aircraft was abandoned in a corner of Ballarat airfield. Our photographs show it in 1965. It had disappeared by early 1966. It was still fitted with its under wing spray bars and fan-driven pump under the fuselage. The chemical hopper was fitted in the front cockpit position, with a refilling hatch ahead of the pilot's windscreen.
23/04/76 Purchased by Thomas John Kirkman of Glenroy, Victoria.
19/09/83 The aircraft was converted back to the normal two place configuration. All fabric was replaced and many major components replaced.
7/10/83 Restored to the register by the above owner.
Unknown date; Ownership transferred to Mark Alan Kirkman.
7/09/88 M A Kirkman reserved the registration VH –JLL as he didn’t like VH-FAG. The registration was changed before the sale in 1990.
1/01/90 Purchased by Kenneth Gordon Scott of Colac, Victoria.
02/1990 The aircraft was spotted at the Ballarat Air Show with the VH-JLL registration although VH-FAG was still discernible under the paintwork. Ken restored the registration to VH-FAG.
06/1991 Ownership transferred to Ken’s wife, Julie.
10/1993 Ken and Julie moved to Bribie Island, Queensland and VH-FAG was based at Caboolture Airfield.

Data plates on all control surfaces and vertical stabilizer show V.I.A. overhaul and dates which fit the dates listed here. Except for the port aileron which has an RAAF plate and a date which fits the "incident" of February 1944.

The engine currently fitted to the aircraft is a 1939 British-built Gipsy Major (Ser. No. 82077) originally fitted to N9257. This Tiger Moth was shipped to Australia and arrived 02/22/1940. It was at 1 EFTS from 12/04/1940 until 25/11/1940. I presume during this time its engine was pulled and replaced for some reason, and that engine was then installed on A17-370 due to its originally fitted engine being marked repeatedly U/S during routine inspections. After that time, its E88 card shows it served with 3 EFTS, 11 EFTS and 9 EFTS, never directly crossing paths with A17-370 as far as I can tell.
