18-Apr-50 While Brian "Blackjack" Walker (HDH Test pilot) was testing Vampire A79-484 he landed after his radio had failed. Unbeknownst to him Tiger Moth VH-CGK/A17-53 was on long finals with the instructor under the hood performing an instrument landing. The Tiger collected the Vampire as it landed with the propeller smashing through the Vampire cockpit canopy. All onboard survived with minor injuries. The Tiger was written off but the Vampire was repaired and delivered to the RAAF six months later.

Rebuilt 1980s and fitted with Wackett canopy and then won the Perth-Sydney Air Race.
In the 1990s registration VH-AFF lapsed.
Re-registered VH-EWR 2010 and stored Evans Head.
